About us
The organizations main objective is to “improve animal welfare for both wild and domesticated animals through organizing and facilitating veterinary projects.” Travelling Animal Doctors also places a strong focus on the importance of education, in making a true, long term change in a community (please read “What we do” for more information).
History
Travelling Animal Doctors was founded in January 2014, by two veterinarians (Jochem and Tjarda from the video on our home page) from the Netherlands.
After extensive travels, volunteering their time and skills in various clinics and programs worldwide, the two veterinarians were clearly presented with the widespread need, and evident lack of adequate veterinary care, globally. At the same time, they started receiving requests from other veterinarians and veterinary students from various countries asking if the two needed help in their ranging voluntary endeavors. Realizing the amount of work to be done, the veterinarians recognized the need to develop clearly defined projects and project trajectories, and build an organized volunteer database in order to find the necessary skilled help for each project. In response to this need, fourteen months after the start of their extensive voluntary work, the pair founded Travelling Animal Doctors as an official non-profit organization.

Travelling Animal Doctors is founded and registered in the Netherlands as “Stichting Travelling Animal Doctors”. All money raised through the website or other fund-raising campaigns will be spent purely on animal welfare projects. The board members, volunteers and other ‘employees’ of the foundation work on a 100% voluntary basis; there is no financial reward for their service.
